Agreed been there and well worth it Beer Stein that is, now you are forcing me to cross the border and try Old World Deli does that come with a side of beaver tail? Ha!
No but it does come with a pickle as Gos intended. And they have house made beers. Good live music sometimes too.

Absolute best thing to do with leftover corned beef or smoked bear ham.

Reuben Soup!!!

5 cups chicken broth
0.75 to 1 lb shredded or chopped corned beef/bear
10 oz. drained kraut
1/2 Cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic minced
1 tsp thyme
1/2 tsp tarragon crushed
1/2 tsp ground pepper
1 bay leaf
1/3 Cup water
3 TBSP cornstarch
2 carrots shredded
12 oz. processed swiss cheese & 1 cup shredded natural swiss cheese
1 cup cream, or half & half
Top with toasted rye croutons

In a 6 qt kettle add chicken broth, meat, kraut, onion, garlic, thyme, tarragon, pepper, and bay leaf....bring to boil, reduce heat, simmer 30 min.

Heat to boil...Stir water and cornstarch together and add to soup, then add shredded carrot to soup, stir until thickened and bubbly

Reduce heat back to simmer and add cheese and cook until melted, stir cheese in, then stir in half & half and heat through....top with rye croutons.

If you like Reuben's, you'll love this stuff.

Gonna add this to the recipe binder and give it a go, sounds tasty! Thanks

Yourself... Most Reuben's aren't worth what they're charging and you'll be disappointed. Starts with the corned beef and bread. Homemade rye and corned beef. I prefer a sourdough light rye with caraway seeds. A Reuben is my favorite sandwich. It's going to be hard to find one as good as you can make yourself with all the factory made corned beef and bread most places use. I guess it's nice to let someone else do the work but I haven't found anyone that can do it as good as you can yourself. If I had to recommend a place I'd say Otto's on Woodstock. They're not fancy but they have good corned beef. Gartner's doesn't make sandwiches but they have a decent corned beef if you want to go the homemade route without corning your own beef. You can get a Franz marbled rye at Chef'Store that is OK but nothing like a home baked loaf.

Back in the day there used to be some decent deli's in Portland. Now everything is some overpriced nonsense. If anyone remembers Dave's Delicatessen back in the day, that place was the real deal. They closed in the late 80's. That place put out the food.

Warning! Photo bomb.

Wow. That is bad ass! And
I grew up in the sando capital of the world. Philadelphia.

Tolly's in Oakland (north of Roseburg) used to make a great one on marbled rye. Dunno if they are still there. Years ago a pal and I stumbled upon a cannon shoot near Hole in the Ground and I swear we discovered excellent Reubens somewhere on 97 near there.

I didn’t realize there was a restaurant in Oakland, I will bird dog it! Thanks

That sounds good enough to eat!

I love a reuben but most of them are a hot, gooey mess if thousand island dressing, melted cheese, and soggy bread. It's such a good idea of a sandwich that it's still good like that.

More meat, less cheese, less sauce, and crispier bread, people. And some spicy mustard on the side. That's all I ask...a little common sense!

If you happen to be in Hillsboro, try The Meating Place. They make a great Reuben.

I would also second The Old World Deli in Corvallis. I’m going to stop in there next time I am down there.

Actually us Old timers don’t consider where the Meating place is as Hillsboro. It’s North of there between West Union and German Town Roads. Used to be Ben Zurchers feed store and a butcher shop there years ago. Across the street was Larry’s Drive in which had some of the best Hamburgers and Milkshakes. Hillsboro and the urban cancer that spreads with it have just about ruined Washington County. That and many of the great places that used to be there. Not sorry for the rant it is what it is.🇺🇸

Most places that sell Reubens get it wrong. Wrong bread, soggy bread, bad meat:kraut:dressing ratio... It's like they have read the list of ingredients but never actually had a good one.

The food cart that used to sit out in front of Lowe's in McMinnville made a pretty good one, but they are long gone.

Yes kind of a mess probably not the best for the ticker especially with fries or tots and definitely a sit down meal not for on the go while driving, but I love them!
