Limited out yesterday and today straight out at 160. Done today by 10:00 which was nice since it was our sixth day in a row. Glad to be able to experience the coho mayhem. Fish have been mostly very nice sized as well. Had to release a nice 'nook earlier in the week which was tough, but had a great fish camp this year.

Launched at 4 pm and headed between the lighthouse and the tips in 190 ft got my limit of coho back by 7:30 . Also got a limit of crab.
The coho bite was slow at best. Got lucky on clips

Yeah, I see the wind worsening as the week progresses.

Well, I just found out that my bro misunderstood the timing of my Hood Canal salmon safari (is ā€œfirst week of Augustā€ really that hard to understand?!) and getting my nephews involved is a big reason I’m hauling the boat 6 hours up there, so I might be outta here Wednesday. Which would make a Newport trip tomorrow a pretty big wild hair. But man, it’s calling. Gonna go gas up the truck and boat here in a few so all possibilities remain open.

Started at 37/09 and landed 2 hatchery in a row then 5 wilds then the bite died. Decided to run to the center pile east side, didn't quite get there when we ran over a slick with lots of birds sitting. Turned north following the seam and landed 6 fish in half a mile. Put the call out on the radio while we looked for our last fish. Then heard a call for help from a lone angler with a huge halibut he couldn't get into his boat on his own. Decided to go give him a hand and after we got him taken care of we resumed trolling 1 mile west of where we'd left the birds. Another 3 fish with one double and we had our 2 limits. Good day with several doubles, and a nice grade of fish. 16 oz, short bus 360, Mexican hat blade orange hoochie and a chunk. 3 mph. 20 & 30 feet out.

For those who fished today...
Those that know Gypsy Davie you know he's an avid fisher who cares deeply about everyone fishing in the ocean. I've heard him help people in the past but today we got to see him in action first hand.
A 77 year old man called over the radio that he harpooned a halibut that was too big for him to pull into his boat. He also lost his gaff trying to the land the beast. Without a hesitation, Levi pulled his gear and ran to help. He hopped on the fellow fisherman's boat, gaffed and landed the 55+ inch halibut!
Thank you Levi for always being there for any fisher that you know or don't know that will soon become your new friend. When I'm 77 I sure hope there's someone like you around to help. @Broadoak

You're the man Levi! I've always appreciated your selfless offers to help others on the water should they need it. And proving that you're true to your word...damn, I admire that! I think we could all strive to be better at that.

Welp. Let’s refine that a bit. Give it the ol’ salty makeover, as it were.

How about….. the Helpful Hooker?
