yamaha F150 vs F200 fuel

I have been researching outboard power choices on a new welded aluminum boat I am considering buying. It seems that some dealers and people tell me that a yamaha F150 will be "enough" power but will have better gas milage then the 6 cylinder upgrade to the F200. On the other hand some people say the bigger engine is better because it works less hard. All the real data I see on actual tests point to at least as good milage on the larger engine at the 30 mph cruising speed(my usual). Are the few dealers that I am talking to pushing the F150 (price point) just simply not telling the truth about the fuel savings or am I missing something? In truth it does seem like at lower (10MPH) there may be some savings on the smaller motor. In short, if you can afford it go for the larger engine because fuel savings is not any worse. What do you guys think?

I just went down the same path. After being on several friends' boats, buying the gas, and weighing all the options, I just chose the Yami 150 for a NR 22'.

With the correct prop, it will go as fast as offshore conditions allow, and be very well balanced at trolling speeds (I really want to avoid any tendency toward being 'stern heavy').

The 200 will burn more fuel. On a 19 or 20 foot boat, a Yamaha 150 compared to a 115 burns less fuel in my experience, but it's also of a similar displacement, and each are 4 cylinder engines. More displacement and more cylinders = more fuel burned, everything else being equal, which it never is. Going from the 150 to a 200 is a more significant step.

Sure, the engine won't have to work as hard, but newer 4 strokes seem to last forever anyway.

Go as big as the money allows:)
