Does anyone have recommendations for a rod and reel combo that can cast light lures (1/16 oz or less) long distances? I'm looking to pick up something from Sportsman Warehouse or Fisherman's Marine. Thanks.

Not sold as a combo.

My "truck rod" is an Eagle Claw featherweight 2 piece 6' with a comaratively cheap open faced spinning reel loaded with 4 lb test maxima. Second choice is the same reel screwed onto a 5', 3 piece UL Ugly Stik.

Most any d*mn near disposable 5-1/2 to 6-1/2 foot UL rod rated for 2 to 6 pound line will work. $25 will more than do. Put your money into the smoothest reel you can find. 100 yards of 4lb to 6lb is fine, more is just more weight.

Line .. maxima ultragreen. Other stuff is ok, that's just my choice. I tried P-line once. Seems to be real strong but it was real slick and wouldn't hold normal knots. Since I'm getting a bit blind "in my old age", wrestling with knots in low light and wind is not my idea of fun.

So you wanting the ultra light for the action or length. I picked up a Okuma ceilo this year that is a light action at 7'6". It's says light but it flexes a lot like my little Shakespeare ultra light. It casts my little 1/16 panthers about 75-100 feet running 4lb test.

My go to line for long distance casting is P-Line Flouroclear, monofiliament coated with fluorocarbon. A year ago I was fishing Wick with two rods that had 6# test, one was spooled up with Fluoroclear 6# and the other with Izorline XXX; the Fluorclear rod beat the other one on every cast

Lots of great rod and reel choices out there. Personally I like the okuma sst ul spinning rods and pflueger patriarch 9525x.

I'm going in a different direction than the lines already suggested. In the same lb test I'd be surprised if any line can out cast Berkley nanofil. Just guessing, but I think it adds about 10% to the same cast vs mono. I had to adjust my casting stoke when I started using it because I kept overcasting my intended targets.

It's no longer on sale, but it seems to be periodically: north river ultra-light. I got a 7 footer with a Solstace 1000.

I'm a fan of my bigger celilo for other applications, but chose the north river over the comparable celilo when they were both on sale.

Depending on what set-up you're coming from, I doubt you could go wrong with either the celilo or cherrywood that are currently on sale. Or just go in there (Fishermans) and tell the guys what you're looking for and they'll take care of ya.

the longest ultra light rod you can find seven foot would work fine. any decent spinning reel. not a lot of choice in the tiny ones. but i find the 30 dollar shimano sierra works fine.

nanofil will cast about the farthest or 4lb braid with a one pound diameter.

i fish the braid right to the hook or lure for trout casting. catch plenty as its limp when wet. and that is what is most important in line.

remember you can add a split shot above the lure and increase casting distance immensely.
