Tube or Tubeless Peep

Ok, so I have a new string on order for my bow. Should be here next week. One guy at the archery shop said since I will have a quality string I won't need a tube on my peep. Talked to another guy there today and he said to put a tube on my peep. So what do you guys think? Tell me what you have, and your reasoning behind it.

I'm no expert on this but I've tried both and I am currently the tubeless.

The tube is nice for making sure the peep rotates correctly but it is also one more thing that can fail at a critical juncture. The tube gets brittle and breaks or can pull off the nipple. The tube is one more thing to snag on a branch and they are also noisy.

On the other hand, if I am carelessly carrying my bow around by the string in different weather, the string can get twisted and the peep may not rotate exactly right - even when that happens though I can generally see through well enough to shoot and alittle twist is all it takes to fix it. The sting loop also seems to help make sure things line up properly.

I have the G5 tubeless peep, it let's in way more light and I am really happy I went that route.

I now shoot with a string loop on my mathews drenalin. Before this, I had a problem with the string rotating and it wouldn't line up when I drew back. This will always be a problem because your string takes a while to stretch and then you will need to take it in and have them take the peep out and readjust it. The string loop will pull it straight every single time.

I'm 1 year into it, and use the tube that came on my bow. I can see why tubeless might be nice, but the tube is really no big deal either.

Just today, a buddy of mine & I were drawing back, and his first draw had the tubeless peep not quite right.

I'm not claiming to be an expert, but from what I have seen the peep is more likely to be out of whack than to have a tube failure (assuming you replace the 19 cent tube once in a while).

I've done 50/50 on my last 4 bows and now I'm stickin with tubeless. But the tubeless I have now doesn't always line up correctly and that one thing I liked about having the tube. I have a winners choice string and i'm not sure why it doesn't always line up. Should I get it checked out? or take it out and re-due it? the guy I got the bow from put it on and I havn't touched it yet....

Try moving your bottom string leech up or down a little. This will rotate your string and bring your peep in to the right position.

Tubeless, quieter and you pick up a couple FPS also. Along with the other pluses mentioned above.

Adj, if your winners choice is under a year old the peep rotating is covered under warranty. They gauranty they won't rotate.

If you put on a new winner's choice string you need to shoot about 30 arrows and then readjust the peep. It will stay put from then on out. That's what was recommended at The Bow Rack and that's what I did and haven't had any trouble. I've shot almost everyday since putting that tubeless peep & WC strings and no rotation.

I've been shooting it everyday since I got it 2 weeks ago and every once in awhile it won't line up.
I just put a string loop on today and its shooting 3 inches high right. so once I sight it in again I will try moving the string leeches and see if that helps any....
if not I'll probably take it into my bow shop and see what they think, and maybe re-set it.

By adding a string loop, you just lengthened your draw. Even though its a small amount the area where your eye would normally look through your peep could have changed and you are looking LOWER which raises your sight up. This would explain why you are shooting high. If your peep doesn't alway come straight back to your eye, you can have them either add or remove a twist from your string to help line it up. You'll need a press for this.

Also: If your peep is tied in, try sliding the knots up or down a little and this will make the peep twist into place depending on which way it is twisting.

Out of habit, the first thing I do is manually twist my peep into place before I draw back.

I shot with a peep for years, but in the last 5 years I have used a kisser button and no peep. I switched because it gives me a better low light shot and I can get on target faster. As long as I can see my target even in low light, I can shot.

I have had to pass up early morning shots because I could not see the critters through my peep. The last straw was a 6x6 bull at 22 yards that stood there for 40 seconds will I tried to find him in my sights. I never took the shot and at the end of season I took off my peep for good.

My arrow group has suffered a little for it, but I can still put every shot into an 8ā€ plate at 45 yards, and I killed 9 grouse and 4 rabbits the first year I switched. So I decided ā€œgoodā€ is good enough.

I do caution you because it’s not for every one. The other guys in my group have tried it and were unable to get comfortable with it. I’m the only one I know who shoots with a kisser, But the potential benefits are worth giving it a try.

Good luck ET

Tube-less........ The reason for the tube is to line up your peep, but if you have a good string the peep will not need to be lined up while drawing..... I like to shoot my bow 40 or so times when i get a new string before i put in my peep site. Just to let everything settle into place. :twocents: Also if you're shooting a D-loop it will help line up your peep as well....

Id stay away from the G5 peeps. The material they use is very soft and they tend to oval out after time. A standard 3/16th Tru Peep is the best in my opinion.

As far as to tube or not, well go without. If you set the string up with a quality string loop it will act as a peep aligner and you wont need the peep tubing. Peep tubing is loud, can cause tuning issues, and they break at the most in opportune times. So avoid it if you can. It can always be added later if you are having problems.

Totally tubular dude, but then again, I don't have string guaranteed to not twist. I'll try a tubeless on my next string purchase, The Bow Rack will be where I go to get'er done.

Everyone keeps mentioning WC strings, well I didn't go that route. I ordered mine through Rock Solid Strings.
Micah posted above, he is pretty good with the technical stuff. He lives in Oregon City too and might be willing to help out a bit.

I don't know spit about tuning, that is why I rely on The Bow Rack in Springfield.

The first rule of bowhunting. If it can go wrong it just did.

It's said in jest, but it's also true. You always have to keep it in mind. If something can go wrong it will. This applies to peeps, too. I use a tube but am interested in tubeless ideas and am reading this with interest. How do they work?

Anything to make it simpler, but am keeping the first rule in mind.

I vote for the tube, I think that they are the greatest thing since perforated toilet paper and I never had one break. I replace my loop every summer and after reading this thread I think I will replace the tube at the same time.
