Tree sap on clothing

Well I knelt in a big old glob of sap from one of our doug firs in my new khakis. I had just bought a new container of mineral spirits (mineral oil or white spirit) and thought I would give that a try. With a little scrubbing it worked like a charm. I tossed them into the wash not realizing that mineral spirits is not water soluble and thus it left a big ol stain on my pants, plus they now smelled like mineral spirits. Fortunately it seems like dawn detergent left to soak for a couple hours before washing will take care of that.

Anything better than this multi step process?

Might try using an ice cube on it. Probably depends on how bad or big of a sap is on them.

I don't know about mineral spirits but if you get sprayed with diesel put your clothes in a plastic bag with 2 liters of classic coke overnight and then wash them and it will take the smell out

Alcohol based hand sanitizer is the best thing I have found and I used to work on a Christmas tree farm so I have tried a lot of things.

Alcohol is an option, I generally use brake cleaner.

It's not sap it's pitch, just sayin...and diesel works.

Hit it with Spray and Wash for the mineral spirits stain.
Might take a couple of washes.

I would go with alcohol first. When I get diesel spil on clothing it takes about 3 washes to get the odor out.
Naptha would be another choice.
