I have 30ish of them that got used hard all summer during my charter season for Tuna and every one of them are still standing perfectly. Great quality rods built by quality individuals. I’ll be using them for years to come.
Right on! I’ve been using them for multiple species and I’m really diggin the shorter butt handle on the longer rods and still being balanced as well as the guides! 💪🏼
No. On their website, states Talon rods have been made in Woodland Wa. since 1979. I've only heard of them for a couple years now, how come not before this? Were rods sold under a different name?
No they have always been under the "Talon" name. They were just never as Big as lamiglas or gloomis. They are less than a lamiglas & over 1/2 of a loomis
I got few custom rods built up on 10'6 blanks and used those on salmon paired with daiwa lexa 300 line counter and green rod hauled 17 and red one 9..besides few high finners..not many though. I like them. I'm getting the 9' drift rod wrapped too. I like em. I got one but my son like to have same combo. They have good bend and right strength on that flex tip.
I have the 4’ and 6’6, absolutely love them! I’m a bank angler and keep both in my car, I swap out the handles depending on what section of the river I’m fishing, I did see they offer an extended version but have yet to try it.
I think I read they were bought out by someone else here recently. Either way I have one of their rods a 9'6" side drifter model I use for bobber fishing. It isn't really all that sensitive, my Okuma guide select pro is substantially better. The tip broke on mine super easy, I was surprised to see it is some sort of blended material and not just graphite almost like a fiberglass blend.
That said it pulls on fish really nicely. I'd consider another for trolling but not for detail work like drift or spinner fishing.
“Talon has been around since 1979. Talon has made its name in Hawaii, Poland, Netherlands and small pockets around the USA. Talon has been more than a fishing rod company building tubes for other industries. In 2020 Patriot Factory purchased Talon and it's assets. Since the purchase 3 years ago there's been a higher demand for USA made fishing rods. Talon is quickly becoming a known name in the PNW as a quality and affordable USA Made option for the fishing community.”
The old Anglers Workshop used to sell their blanks for custom builders in the 90s & early 2000s at least; I built up a couple back then. One of them was my favorite light steelhead spinning rod in its day, but I broke both halves of it at different times (mishaps, not defects) and had to rebuild each section so it was almost like a whole new rod at one point. It’s still in the backup/loaner rotation, still catches fish.
