So I have a Cabela Club card and have a fair amount of points to use, if that was not the case I would order tackle elsewhere. Just placed an order today and estimated delivery date is January 19th-25th. That is 13-18 days to put an order together and get it here. Even under todays tough conditions I find that to be pretty crappy service. I order a lot of gear on line and Tackle USA and Discount tackle regularly get it to my door in under a week and in Discount tackles case two days. Ordered a tackle bag off Amazon right after Christmas and it got here from overseas in under nine days. I called Cabela's customer service and asked why it would take so long and they had no answer to that question at all. Just a run around line that shipping companies are behind and are taking longer. When I asked them why their competitors could get packages shipped faster again no answer. My take is that they do not care. I have been a Cabela's customer for a long ,long while and have spent a small fortune with them over the years but no more. When I use up my current point total I am done. Guess I will be shopping for a new main credit card also. Ever since the merger with B.P.S, Cabela's service has gone downhill. My guess is that this Dinosaur will soon be extinct. That will be sad. I generally go into Cabela's to look around and buy what I need, however back in September I received a gift card for Cabela's and ended up getting a new reel. They did not have it at the local store, so I ordered it online on 9/28 and it was delivered to the Tualatin store on 10/5 where I picked it up (pretty good service in my opinion). I agree with your concerns about the merger with BPS, but I will still support Cabela's .... I would hate to see them go away, so we have to buy from Amazon or China...... :palm: :twocents:

I would also hate to see them go away also but with the level of service they are currently offering they may have a rough road ahead. I have been a faithful customer of theirs for over thirty years. Just not the same company I am used to doing business with anymore. I am hoping they can exceed expectations on this try.

I waiting for a order from Midway that I placed on the 26th, it's on the way snail mail. Not their fault it was shipped pretty soon after my order was placed
Who has been really bad is Girls With Guns, I ordered a pair of upland hunting pants for my wife on the 23rd. I didn't need them for a Christmas present, but it took 7 days to process and ship, then they used snail mail on top of that. I got tracking on both orders from usps, basically telling me expect delays, not really surprised on the U.S. mail moving slow,,,gregg

I placed an order on September 3 with Optics Planet. I couldn’t pass up the deal they listed “on sale “. Great price!
I get a notice it will be shipped February 4.
So there are taking orders as well as offering the item at a discounted price without having current inventory. Part of this situation is this is an Amerymade product in somewhat a high demand.

If you spend any time on firearms forums you'll know optics planet is NOTORIOUS for that. Ive made several orders with them, all said in stock at time and none were ever delivered in what I'd consider a reasonable amount of time. Amywhere from several weeks to months to im not waiting that much longer and just canceling the order.

I'm only speculating here but what about this as a possible reason for the down fall.. you will only have to go back to a few years to see that Cabela's was sold to Bass Pro. I can't help but think something is amiss in the running of the company.

What is amiss is that that BPS and Cabelas do not have to compete with each other so they are able to allow service to deteriorate without significant loss of sales. One of the primary reasons for acquiring a competitor is to reduce competition. The buyer pays an inflated price for the competitor and banks on being able to maintain sales volume while cutting expenses. In many cases the only real expense cut that can be made that is meaningful is in employee cost. They reduce employee expense (layoffs) which results in poor service. Poor service is then not as big a factor since there are fewer places for unhappy customers to go and sales volume is not affected as much.

My wife is a rep for one of the top two shippers in the world for over 25 years now and this year has been the worst ever for customer complaints with no wrong doing on their part. She was told to let all of her shipping customers know that if they had goods that absolutely had to be on vendors shelves by Black Friday to ship the goods six to eight weeks in advance of which she told the shippers to do so six to eight weeks prior to even that, but of course nobody did. Thus lot's of empty shelves at every sporting goods store and every other retail vendor. Quite a few of her shipping customers complained to the point of bringing tears to her eyes with their badmouthing ( I tried to talk her into quitting after hearing one irate customer after another go on and on relentlessly) of what they considered to be incompetence even though they were forewarned as much as four months in advance what needed to be done. I guess what I'm trying to say is a little patience goes a long way and you can't blame the person on the other end of the phone for why they are giving you the answer you don't want to hear. It is what it is right now and complaining about it just takes up your time and theirs keeping them from being able to get on with their day trying to explain to some other unlucky schlub why he just had to have the same exact conversation just 10 minutes earlier with you. It sucks bad right now all over the world for a lot of things, not just our tackle obsession wants that we all here especially on Ifish call our needs. That being said, did you absolutely have to have what you were calling them about, or just wanted it and that gave you all the ammo you needed to call them and rant. Just curious because this enquiring mind is dying to know.

Cabela's sells nothing I have to have , just stuff I want. What prompted my call was wanting to know why they projected such a long wait time to get my order when other companies I do business with get it done so much quicker. I think that is what customer service departments are for. Like I said in my post, Fish USA in under a week or less my last two orders and Discount tackle in three days or less my last two orders. Last order to Smokey mountain knife during Christmas rush a week or eight days. Setting the bar low is not exactly conducive to building customer confidence IMO.

For at least the time being this is now our new normal. Try and order an outboard motor of any size right now from any dealer over the phone and guess what kind of response you will be getting? Hurry up and wait unfortunately, especially with the bigger motors. I know personally of waits as long as six months with some builders and that's just their guestimate. I'm hoping if you read through most of my last post and really think about it, then you'll likely come to your senses and say well maybe he's right and there are many other things in this world right now that I am and should be uptight, or just downright ****** off about. Wow I can't believe I just used downright in a sentence. That was the ghost of my grandmothers voice coming out of me there. OOPS!!!!

On a bright note I placed an order with Cabelas free shipping to home January 5th and received shipping notice expected arrival January 13.
Item manufacturer is located in Pacific Northwest.

I no longer go to Cabela's to get something specific. I get it on line. Recent on line purchases include. 12 fire red hot shots in two sizes $66, Savage 555E ultra light deluxe engraved over under 12 GA- $687, S&W PD329 titanium 44 magnum revolver- $982, 150 ea 44 mag penetrating rounds and 100 - 44 special rounds @ about $1.06 per round(the Ammo service person at Cabelas laughed at me when I asked if they had some 44 mag ammo) and a ground blind for $137. I am willing to pay freight and my neighborhood FFL to get exactly what I need.
I now go to Cabalas to look at stuff. I bought a Shimano bait caster and pole (not the one I wanted) $270. I bought it cause mine flipped out of my jet ski and the bass fishing was on fire and wanted to go the next day . I got a atv rear view mirror(needed it to be street legal for my trip to Montana last min), Taper fly fishing leaders(they always have stock) ,Bought two matching 5 gallon water tanks (cause they looked cool) and various cloths, socks ,dog toys and dog biscuits . I have also bought bass stuff at the dead of winter from the store(by fishing season they are left with nothing I want on the shelf) They don't care about service so I don't care either as I tell them just looking for nothing in particular. If they had variety on the shelf. For instance all the hot shots available but some out of stock items could be sent to your home a day or two later I might go shopping for something specific. :twocents: They need to re-tool the shelves and the check out so this is possible. I think best buy does this(gets stuff from the back or gets it on order if they don't have it)

Sportsman’s Warehouse Acquired by Owners of Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s

Well isn't that something... a near monopoly? Naw.... I'm REALLY happy that the Mom n Pop shows have really taken over the tackle business. Stores like Bobs, Fishermen's, Fish n field, Short Bus (to name a very few) are really making a bigger hit, fitting into the "big box" stores category. Catering to the areas needs/wants makes more sense and that's why (IMO) that PBS/Cabela's is buying up these stores. They fit the needs of the PNW fishermen. Maybe that's why they bought Sportsman's?? PBS was a huge hit down in the south with bass fishermen and hunters. Even today, on the local level, the hunting section does WAY better than the fishing section .
