we have been having a big problem with water running in the scuppers during bait stops. we are thinking about switching out to the ball type and wondering if any of you have any feedback on them.

On my buddies Trophy he has the ball scuppers. You have to be very carfull to keep them clean and really watch what gets washer down them. Got a snail washed down one once and the smell a couple weeks later was unreal. :passout:

the boat is a skagit orca 27 it does get heavy in the stern with bait tank fish and 5 people back there my parents put the ball type on there seasport and dont get water any more but i am wondering if they can plug up with dropped bait and stuff while tuna fishing, my parents don't tuna fish or fish with bait so i guess i am curiuos if anybody has tried them on a tuna boat.seems to me that even with weight in the back the water sould'nt pour in like it does now it has litterally filled the engine compartment when the bilge pump can't keep up not something you like to see 60 miles out i know that some water will come in but have never seen it came in like this. maybe the rubber ones just need to be replaced it didn't used to be a problem like this until this year

Had the ping pong type on the last boat after having the standard flap type. Big difference. I did a lot of tuna fishing and they will/can get clogged up with bait and junk. Tuna will often cough up what they've been eating and much of it would end up in the skuppers. However, the design of the ball type by itself will prevent water from free flowing back into the boat unlike the flapper.

IMO seems like an excessive amount of water coming into the boat. Actually sounds pretty darn scary. My boat (22') with the flappers would get water in when you had the fish holds full (over 6' long and 2' wide) on either side of the motor box and 2-3 guys fishing the back. However, water never went into the bilge. That all changed with the ball type. Really made a huge difference.

My NR has the ball type and they work pretty well, except. They have worn out, I guess from all the petro stuff and what ever else is scuming up the boat moorage from time to time. Easy to replace when out of the water. No too expensive either. I have 2 large and 2 small and they were less than $50.00(Rabud is the brand).
When they get plugged up with "stuff" just blow them out with the washdown hose.
PM for ordering info. seem to only be available on line.

Souinds like you are exceeding you capacity limit. Fish tank, 5 adults all in the transom area.
5 adults could be a 1000 lbs alone. Then the water weight and bait.

Maybe you need to redistribute some people here. Overloading the transom on big blue with swells and waves, you could get into some serious trouble in a instant.

Just a thought here!:twocents:
