I did one this year and it was pretty easy. Follow the instructions in the packet and it should be a no brainer. Good luck, it's nice to have it on there.

They make a sling that "goes around the stock" so you wouldn't need to drill one in. Thankfully my Xtrema 2 came with sling attachments. I didn't think that i would like a sling on my shotgun but it is really helpful and it has only caused me any problems, shooting wise, one time.

 

Locktite on the cap nut is the only special addition to the instructions sheet i would add

 

You didn't specify what sling kit your using, but there is a replacement cap nut for the magazine tube that has a sling stud on it, so you don't have to drill the forearm.
You would only have to drill the buttstock for a stud.

My brother has one of the slip on slings and has for three years. It still holds tightly and works great w/o having to drill or buy a new magazine cap.

 

what website are you seeing these slip-on slings? i dont think i have ran in to one of those yet.

The only thing about the slip on slings is that they also slip off. I did my 870 when i was 15 its a no brainer drill a hole and screw the stud into stock and get the replacement cap for the mag.

 

I have been wanting to put a sling on my remington 870, i was wondering if anyone else has put a sling on their shotgun.

im mainly wondering how to drill/install the stock stud for the sling to clip on to...

any help would be appreciated, even if youve done an install on another brand that didnt come set up for a sling

Just enlarge the hole in the magazine cap and use the machine screw stud. Loctite the nut. The stud doesn't have to be perpendicular to the barrel. Use two different size drill bits for the buttstock stud. Glue will help seal the wood. Good luck......Salmurai

 

Thats how i did mine. Clear silicone in the hole i drilled in the stock to keep water out. worked like a charm. Took about 10 minutes.

 

I used a big heavy tie strap under my vent rib and it has been holding for years.

 

Cohoguy, I recall picking up the sling at a local sporting goods store, possibly Sportsman's Warehouse, I do not know the brand. I was reluctant because of the "slip on" nature, but as I said before, after three years, it is holding tight for my brother. It is a cheap and reliable alternative to drilling and a new cap.

 

place called midwest gun works dot com has the conversions for the 870. I bought one last year.
