How about a thread on Prams? I have been casually looking for awhile now without any luck. Does anyone have an 8' pram I could borrow to see if it is really the second boat I want? I want to be able to launch at places that don't have boat ramps.

I really love my parm. Its a water shed 10 foot fiberglass. I put on boards in front and back and put in don hill front and back anchors. Took out the seats and put in a Chair. That way I can move it. I have floated many river and used in many lakes. Now just mainly use it for lakes and Cloumbia spring creeks. The fiberglass is a little thin for rivers. I would recomend not to get a fiberglass pram and get a Koffler pram. They are aluminum
and much stronger. I would not get a boat smaller than 10 foot. I had a 8 foot boat and did not feel safe in it.

I think you should quit trying to rationalize why you need another boat (i.e. pram), and just get it. THEN figure out how and where you're going to use it. Hell, I'm still coming up with different uses for my SOT yak that I purchased last year. Going to take it on a smallie float down the middle Willy later this year.

Mark--

I have an 8 ft. pram. Aluminum from GP boat shop.
You're more than welcome to use it to find out if this is what you want. (or use it to fish your secret place, each season--I owe you!)

Thanks, I will call you when the weather changes. :)

We have to hit that hatch we've talked about...that one a little north of that place where we slayed them last time.

I have an eight foot spring creek pram.

It fits nicely in the back of my pickup. With the wheels that are sold as an option, I can haul the pram quite a distance for launching. Best of all, when the water is cold, I am high and dry out of the water.

They're pretty easy to build, too. I built one in my bedroom while in college, and boated a heck of a lot of fish over the 25 years before I sold it.
Check out the Nutshell Pram design from Woodenboat magazine, as well as the Phil Bolger-designed "Instant Boats" that Dynamite Payson sells plans for.
Prams give you the most boat in the shortest length that you can get, and they tend to be pretty darned stable. They can ride a little wet in a chop, but this can be minimized with proper design.
