Early on in the late (90s?) I saw guide Mike Kelly of
FishReaper guide service (formally Hell's Anglers) catching more spring chinook than anyone else in the Columbia River. Mike and his wife/assistant Linda have always been friendly to us locals and willing to share (and recieve) information with me. I noticed he had boxes of Kwikfish of varying sizes and, mysteriously, I've been partial to the Double Trouble K-14 with a small sardine wrap ever since.
Here is the K-14 plug that has caught more springers than any other I've seen. It is the rare, no longer made, highly coveted "Pacific Watermelon" that Bob's Sporting Goods in Longview ordered and gave away to all of those that entered their springer contest years ago. It is similar to the commonly available "California Watermelon" but instead of a green metallic back, it is blue. This one is belongs to Team K.
I wish iFishers had chosen a Kwikfish with blue in it this year. Alas, that is not the case.
Brad's makes a similar one called a Brad's Killer Fish in the same color scheme. I recently picked out a few to put under the tree for myself, promising my wife that I'd forget about them and would be truly surprised.... that is not working.
