So I saw the ad Fisherman's is running with the Lew's Speed Spin SS300a for 1/2 price. Stopped in to check it out. Was surprised that not only does it have a second spool but it's ready for braid as well. I was happy enough with the feel of it that I grabbed one. The guy at the counter was so impressed he was going to grab one as well when he saw it came with a spare spool.

I know their casters have great reviews so I look forward to seeing how this one does. And for $35, I can always hand it to the kids to use.

Uh oh, now I need to pair it with a rod!

Braid has been around for 20 years, all my spinning reels including Abu Cardinals and even some of the old man's Abu 300s and 308s did fine. Looked at a picture of the reel, and the spare spool is designed with a shallow interior/large arbor so you don't have to put on lots of braid or fill first with line than put braid on top. So if your not using braid your spare spool is worthless. Another non problem fixed like the large arbor fly reels.
