Hey just curious on how to fish night time for bow and brown trout. Some lakes (Miller lake) say they are open all year and 24 hr a day, so I was doing research on how to properly gear up for this type of fishing, if it varies from traditional daytime fishing from either a boat or the bank? thanks

Man, I dont have the foggiest idea. I thought you could'nt fish them after dark around here. I know when we bank fish for cats, we build a fire on the shore and throw our bait of choice to them. When we were in Canada, we would fish with spotlights, headlamps and spinners for big rainbow, off a boat. Maybe that would work here too.

I used to go fishing every year to a lake in canada
They allowed night fishing, but I never saw anyone doing it until I did
I used a fly trolled behind the boat about 75ft with 6lb test, nothing else
I fished only when there was at least a quarter moon and not too cloudy
I used the oars, take 2 or 3 strokes then let the boat go until it stops wait about 10 seconds after it stops then 2 or 3 strokes
If you use a trolling motor just put it in and out of gear to get about the same movement
Fish would see the fly from below with the moonlight behind it and hit it like a freight train, they would come out of the water several feet when they hit the fly
Most hits came when I went from stopped to moving
I caught a lot of fish that way, after I started catching fish like that lots of other people at the lake were going out at night and catching fish
HOPE YOU CATCH A BUNCH

Personally i would get a light up bobber and fish bait, worms or power bait. When fishing bait you want something either along the lines of their natural substunance or something with a strong but tasty scent since visability will be low even for them. Why i say a bobber is when it gets dark with the warmer weather these fish will rise and mainly stay out of the depths feeding off of bugs on the water. You can also plunk for them but i have had better luck off the top.

Or i would get some glow in the dark lures they will strike the glow lures just due to being able to see them and the vibration at night will surely set them off.

I have never fished for trout at night but have fished for other predatory species in other states with pretty good success (yes it was legal). Generally speaking, you're going to want to choose lures or flies that help the fish find your offering and fish in a manner that limits missed/erratic strikes. Think slow and steady on the retrieve, bigger profile lures/flies in darker colors and lures/flies that either push a lot of water or create a bunch of vibration. You're also going to want to set up so that you stay up pretty high in the water column to make sure you are creating that prey profile over the top of whatever you're after. Since I was targeting fish that came up into the shallow flats to feed under the cover of darkness I always made an effort to minimize noise and light too.

I haven't fished Miller (wanted to for a while though!) but would probably try something like a sar-mul-mac in black over blue on an intermediate line for fly fishing or for a casting rod a 4 inch long dark colored swim bait with a big paddle tail and as light a jig head as you can manage. Probably won't get much action but if you land one it will be memorable!
