What do you use when tying up a fixed tie salmon mooching rig? I prefer using Maxima Ultragreen 40lb with 3/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hooks (red). On my 2 hook setup I set the hooks about 3 1/2-4 inches from eye to eye apart.

I use 40 lb fluoro with a 4/0 Big River barbless in the front and a 3/0 BR in the back. However, this summer, I have almost completely switched over to Brad's cut plug, kokanee cut plug and superbaits with a single trailing 3/0 BR. A $1.00 can of tuna in oil is a lot cheaper than $8.00 to $9.00 a tray.

Success rates don't seem to make a difference either and I know I'm always fishing; even after a solid drive by.

Maxima 30# ultra green and gamigatsu 4X on bottom and 5X for the top.
My method, run top hook up middle of jaws out between eyes, bottom about 2/3 down bait fish insert twice so hook point shows at bottom with most of hook inside bait. Tighten until the slack between two hooks goes straight but no more, I want a straight swimming bait that turns slow and flashes but does not spin in circles. YRMV.

I tie them 2,3 & 4 fingers, I want the back hook just past the bait, I have found with a longer hang back the more fish snags I get, nothing like snagging a 30lb salmon in the back near the dorsal because it took a swing and miss at the your anchovy, fun at first, but gets old real quick....
