I'll be giving stripper fishing a go here at Lake Havasu during this next week. I did get some information from the local tackle store but thought it would be interesting to see if anyone on this site has any first hand knowledge of this fishery and can offer any tips.

Hasn’t the stripper fishery been affected by the COVID shutdowns?

Make sure to inspect VERY closely. I often found that strippers may look like trophies in low light conditions, but can be disappointing in the full daylight.

Strippers.......... Wont touch one with a ten foot pole.

Stripers......
We use to have loads of fun fishing "Stripers" directly below Davis Dam Bullhead City AZ
But that was back in the Early 80's. 20 to 30 pounds were very probable then. 4-5 pound average I recollect.
We also Use to catch large Cutthroat Trout a bit further down stream.
About 1 1/2 hour from Havasu City.

Fished Lake Havasu many times between 1979-1983.
Main attraction for me was Largemouth Bass as I fished in a few tournaments for them there (and many of the other AZ Lakes). Had a 19 1/2 Rebel Custom Bass Boat with a 115 Merc. all tricked out.
But never fished exclusively for Stripers on the Lake.
Havasu is a LONG Lake (45 miles) so use your FF to find schools and move on.
That's Bass fishing for ya....

I believe IIRC that the best Colorado River Striper fishing was in highly oxygenated waters like below dams.
I believe it was also because below dams collected lots of feeder fish and are deep cooler pools.
Don't count out Evening Fishing either.

Anchovy chunks was what we had the most success with. We where told 1'' was a good length but the fish we got into where smaller so started to use smaller baits and that helped. If not pressed for time, tolling was on the agenda. Maybe next time we go.

I dont know about the lake but last I knew, the river from Davis dam to Needles Cal. had plenty of stripers and you could catch em all day as they had taken over the river. Problem was that they were so plentiful that they were almost all small-- 5 lbs or so. When I was a kid some of the locals used to sneak up under Davis dam in their boats at night and catch the big ones, 30-50 lbs. Water dogs used to be available from the bait shops there but who knows now? Rapalas used to be the go to if you were casting from shore. That area is now controlled by the Mojave tribe so pretty sure you would need to get a permit from them if you decide to give it a try.
