New to the state of WA. Southern California born and raised. Been fishing all my life and I want to try my luck at the jetty fishing this summer. I live in Vancouver, WA is there any good jetties in the WA side for this type of fishing?? What fish could be caught off the jetties here? Or is a non-resident OR 2 day liscence worth it?
Any info is truely apprecitated.:excited:

there's also red tail surf perch on the ocean side of the north jetty (ilwaco, cape disappointment state park) and theoretically black rock fish & ling cod on the river side.
coho is a good bet though this summer with the large forecasted return:pray:

Spent last saturday casting #4 size spinners and monday bobbering coho off the north jetty.

the basics:
most people are set of with a slip bobber that will hold 1+ oz's of lead, and 9' rod that can bring in a 40lb chinook if you get into one, and hook sizes ranging from #2 up to 2/0 and a LONG HANDLED NET....you will need it.

Spinners were effective aswell, saw several bluefox brand in orange body/chrome-silver blades...I used a chrome blue body and silver blade...no love for my spinner, but the orange one I saw hook fish both days.

My set up consisted of a 1oz salmon stalker slip bobber/float on 50lb braided mainline, 25# mono leader and a 1.5oz bannana weight...the leaders were 4' in length and I used 2 - 1/0 gamis to rig the whole fresh anchovies purchased from one of the bait shops approx $5 for a 1lb bag of chovies.

I rigged the chovie head up....put the point of the top hook into the chin and up through the nose, and the bottom hook went into either side along the lateral line and then back out so the chovie hung straight or with a very slight bend in it for spin action.

Set the bobber stop at approx 9 to 10 feet from the bait, the length of the rod I was using.

I landed a half dozen coho, some nates released, and even caught a couple black bass or rock cod, also returned.

rods, 9' to 10' help the best with casting for distance and while fishing on volkwagon sized boulders....98% of the anglers use spinning reels for ease of casting into the wind...I used a pair of ABU 6500's, and did encounter several backlashes casting into the wind...it did get tiresome.

Start fishing 1 hr before low slack and fish the next 7hrs on the incomming and about 1 hr after high slack into the out going.

best hrs are the 1hr before / during / and after high slack and saw best results during these times.

besure to check the forcast for seas, surf, wind and bring raingear if needed....I had 6' seas crashing the jetty in my face for 4 hrs on monday and left early as I was unprepared...I was drenched from head to toe.

Good luck
