Going up to dig geoducks next week. Looking for ideas for a geoduck tube. I can't find any 15-20 gallon food barrels for sale in the Vancouver areas. Was wondering if someone had any ideas with readily available materials.

We used to make them out of 1/4 grease barrels. Cut the bottom off and cut slots near the top and line them with split garden hose for hand protection.
Haven't ever dug them and don't know how large they are or how deep but for gaper clams I use an arms length piece of Schedule 80 8" pvc. If you need larger you may be able to find it at a hardware store or maybe call the water company or a plumbing contractor and see if they have any scrap pieces that would work for you. Good Luck:twocents:
You are welcome to borrow mine. Smaller diameter, dig out by hand/small trowel. They work great, and are easy to carry. I'm just north of you--you can pick them up on your way. Shoot a PM with your rough schedule and we'll work it out.
It's just for shoring--you don't have to dig a huge hole, and it doesn't collapse in on you, especially on a rising tide. Often the last 'duck of the day is pulled from standing water around the outside of the tube.
