Which one is it? It doesn't really look like 3, 8, 12, or 16 strand by their drawings? All of them it looks like the strands are running at an angle, but the solid braid the strands look like they run parallel with the rope.

Nope, this rope that Bob's has doesn't have a core like double braid.

Are there any good rope and rigging places in Portland that may be able to help? Maybe someone that caters to the sailboat crowd?

 

Or does anyone know where to buy 300 feet of 3/8" double braid? Fisherman's?

 

BTW,

You don't want to use floating line such as poly for an anchor - makes it more likely to pull out of the bottom. You want something that will tend to lay as low and close to the bottom as possible, for the best angle of pull on the anchor. All chain or chain connected to nylon are the standard choices for anchor rodes.

Three strand is easy to splice to chain. I've eye-spliced double braid as well, but it's a lot trickier and you have to have the right tools.

So poly floats and nylon sinks?

 

Nylon doesn't sink very fast, but it absorbs water and does sink. Poly definitely floats - that's why it's often used for towing lines.

 

Best way to do it is with Sampson braid...coils the best, doesn't get twisted up. Easy to splice three braid. You can get it at West Marine, or you can take what you have to them and they can do it at the rigging shop in Seattle.

 

with that stuff i would just use a clevis and a knot. and cut if off and do it again when it wears the line.

or use a whip finish and needle it through on the doubled line

and definitely need some chain with a floating line.
