Generally speaking port towns are best for crabbing without a boat. I'm not aware of any crabbing opportunity's from the bank around PC. You can crab in Lincoln city but its kinda goofy crabbing from the beach I know the guys that use traps with heavy fishing rods do well at times.

 

I know it is goofy but, maybe from the pier then in LC. The kids are dying to see a crab (alive)

Have you tried the castable crab snares? They are a little mesh box with loops of heavy mono. You put bait and a lead weight in the box and cast it out. After 10 minutes or so, reel it back in. The loops snare the crabs. I've had decent luck with them.

I don't know specific spots in PC, but I would think the lower bay would work. Maybe Nestucca can chime in here with some local knowledge.

 

Crabbing with those snare boxes is a blast. You can sense the "bite" of the crabs climbing around the box, set the "hook", and reel them in fast.

I've heard people say the folding traps work better, but I haven't tried.

Make sure you use a big enough rod and reel.

 

With any of the above mentioned devices, I would suggest Island Park Bridge on the 'incoming' tide. It is located between Cape Kiwanda and Sandlake. If you can locate some tuna scraps, that would be good.

 

Is that also known as Whalen Island? That's probably the spot and technique I would suggest also. You can even throw crab rings from there. Also, if you drive south to the Salmon River bay the crab snares would work great. There is access to nearly the mouth by car. Good luck.

 

If the castable traps don't fit your budget use a pair of old nylon socks....even regular socks...drop a six ounce or eight ounce sinker in the bottom of it with some bait a let er go.
