I like the price and the "Easy installation" -- I wonder how true that is :jester:

I'll have to do a little research and see if the install instructions are on-line at the mfr.

 

When I cleaned, inspected and replaced seals on my EZ-Loader last year I looked into liquid lube hubs, I stayed with grease only because I was already into the job and the bearings were fine. I found that EZ-Loader has liquid lube hubs from their factory in Washington for about $50.00 each if I remember right, if you've got an EZ-Loader I'd think that would be the way to go.

I swore, after the mess of replacing grease and seals, that the next time I'm going to flip for the hubs from EZ-Loader!

When I converted my last trailer to oil bath I called EZ Loader and I needed to get new brake drums in addition to the conversion kit which added a couple hundred bucks. So depending on your trailer the cost might be higher. The EZ loader system is NOT a “Liqua-Lube” system. “Liqua-Lube” uses their own proprietary synthetic oil. The EZ Loaders use a 50wt or ? gear oil I think. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

And for what it’s worth, Shorelander says if your trailer sits a lot, they recommend you spin the wheels every couple of weeks to keep the oil on the bearings because moisture can get in there through condensation and this could cause pitting of exposed bearings. I usually use my boat every weekend (when I have one ) so it’s not an issue for me. I will still use oil bath (Liqua-Lube) but there is still maintenance to be done. :twocents:

 

Waterdog, I recall the detailed retrofit instructions you posted about that project, and that you had to replace the drums (and wasn't there some drilling/tapping too?.

That's what makes this $40 kit from Kodiak so interesting - "easy installation" ray:.

 

With the Liqua-Lube system I used my original drums. I did have to drill the face of the hub to install the caps. It was an easy install. What took a while was cleaning all the grease off everything. Also don't forget that if you have relief holes in the spindle, they will need to be plugged.

I'm sure the oli kits work well, but I don't know about installation. Our new EZ-Loader came standard with them. Sure keep the wheel cleaner than the bearing buddies.
