I'm getting all pumped for the real steelhead to get here this year and I've been thinking that if I get that monster bright fish his replica is going on the wall. I figure he's going to have to be over 41" to justify the money or one heck of a story.
The question is...How big is your biggest steelhead ever and did you get it mounted? If you have a great steelie mount can I see it so I know what to look forward to?

The biggest Steelhead i have caught was 19 lbs, Alsea 2005 january 17. C&R Native Buck! Quick pic and back in the water. Beautiful fish but not the one I wanted a mount from! I have caught several upper teens fish, that i wish i had mounted, mostly Siletz fish " CHROME":meme:!
 still waiting to break the 20lb class, I think when i do that i will be in the same shoes as you! READY to get a mount!

I spent 17 years waiting on nearly the same thing you are.... My goal for a fish to mount was 25+ pounds and honestly I never figured it would happen.... I've landed 13 steelhead over 20 with two estimated at 24ish until this last year. I was able to land the biggest of my life at 43.75" and was estimated at 29 pounds, this is the replica...........

2 fish about 21# each. Both nice bucks with red stripe. One fish about 20 years ago and one two years ago. As I started thinking about the size of the fish I caught what is wierd is I have lots of fish between 10# and 15# but only a couple in the high teens and a couple just over 20#. Seems to me I should have more in the high teens.

One of the guys I grew up with has a beautiful 32# Steelhead mount. It's the nicest mount I have ever seen. I just haven't landed a fish I want mounted yet.

The very first steelhead I ever landed or hooked was a 38in, 18lb hatchery winter steelhead! I still might get it mounted just because it was my first. My brother in law told me that it was huge, the fish of a life time, I'v got close to it a few times but havent hit the 20lb mark yet. Hopefully this year!

43" x 23" native buck on the South Coquille in 1992. Depending on which formula you subscribe to it was between 27 and 31 pounds. He took a #5 silver and red Luhr Jensen Pro Spinner (remember those??).

I keep toying with the idea of having a replica done, but there always seems to be something I want worse.

I've caught lots of high teens, hooked some that suspect were 20+, less than a handful that I KNOW were 20+, and one that I am pretty sure was bigger than 43 x 23. But so far he's been my only 20+.

This is the year I'll catch another. I hope.

I got a monster ~18-20 on the deschutes on August 4th 2001. Native, no measurements, no photos, no witness except my dog. I know he was pushing the 20 pound mark because I could barely get my hand around his caudel peduncle and his adipose was half the size of my thumb. My biggest ever. Its funny because I think the more you want a big fish the harder they are to get. Uno Swensk, a guy that I fish with, gets at least one 20lber every year. I call him big fish Uno.

Here is mine. Last year in February. Didnt get to tape it but I think it was 20 or dang close. Thanks to eyefish for the touch up job. Hey JD you better start saving your pennies if you want a replica b/c a fish like your talking will run you upwards of 15-16 hundred depending on how good you want it to look and who does it for you.

The biggest steelhead of my life came on Valentine's day a few years back. It was a really light bite as my Okie drifter and shrimp tail swung downstream of me at a 45 degree angle. After an epic fight my friend helped me tail the native buck that measured 44 x 22 1/2. By far and away my biggest steelhead to date. I haven't caught another one over twenty pounds, but have caught many in the 16-18 lb. range. I dream about that fish frequently.:D
