Afraid of possibly waking the wife rummaging through the closet?? 🤣🤣
As any smart man would be.

I already died once, not doing anything to provoke a second time.

You don’t poke a sleeping bear. A crappie is not worth it.

Get my choirs done today and try to get out in the next two days. Wind forecast has today and Sunday as good days. Let’s hope Sunday holds out or Saturdays forecast changes.

No boat sunrise pic today. Too windy. So here is one from the Bronco.

Settled in on the beach.

One bull head, about 5 small bass and a dozen or so pike minnow.

Nothing exciting like waiting on a horse shoe guy, but it was beautiful as always.

Interesting rod holders.
You make them?
Why to tall?
Might have to weld some together for myself, just a little shorter.
Mind sharing some dimensions?
Thanks

I’m fat and lazy. I’m not getting on my knees or squatting down to set tension on home made rod holders. Anything waist high ish is good.

I’ve made several versions over the years. This set is my go to.

3/4ā€ angle about 36ā€ long. I like them just above belt height.

3/8ā€ key stock for the spike. About 9 1/2ā€ long welded into the angle. Shaped to a point but not pointy enough to draw blood.

1/2ā€ key stock or bar stock for the cross piece. About 11ā€ long welded to the spike and angle. If your primary spot for use is all sand and no rocks, I swap this to 2ā€x3ā€ angle. 3ā€ side down to dig into the sand. Gives it stability.

Holder is a piece of 1 1/2ā€ or 1 3/4ā€ pipe or conduit, whatever is in a piece about 3 1/2ā€ long.

Figured I would try and hit it for bass this last weekend so got up early and was at powder just after 6am gates were open but the gates across the ramp were closed !! ****ed me off !!! Water was too low I'm guessing ?? Wasted an hour making the drive around to the park and lost that early bite. Fishing sucked lol caught a couple 10" dinks but nothing like I figured might happen since the spawn is done water is cooler and fish should be trying to put on the weight before winter.

I’ll be out there Saturday one way or the other. At 65 the winter feeding frenzy might not have started yet. Mid to low 70’s was about the warmest it got. Last year the fishing tapered off and never really saw the winter beef up feeding. At least I didn’t. I’m sure others will have had different experiences.

Splashed the boat around 11 after deer hunting. Water 61.5 trolled plugs 5 squ$wfish 4 large mouth bass 10 small mouth bass 2 trout one was 17ā€ and kept four crappie biggest was 12ā€. Water was really colored up. And the north side launch at the state park is sanded in. Had to use 4 wheel drive to pull the boat. Glad I didn’t get this stuck like this. I see why they need the launch fees now haha can’t even beach a dock

And next year after the additional million dollars in fees, both lanes will be sanded in and the dock will be in the parking lot. Not looking forward to the maintenance budget once they get a ton of extra funding. It never goes the way you would expect it to.

Sorry I couldn’t join you today. My October curse continues. I miss that stupid little dog. 16 years of having her by my side. Just glad she went peacefully and in my arms.

Maybe next weekend I’ll be able to get out.

Is that guy trying to get the backhoe stuck?

Damn that sucks. Sorry to hear about your dog. All the fish we hooked were in front of the county boat launch

Well bullheads are biting again. 1 squ%wfish 3 trout and lost count of bullheads and bass. looks like catfish tacos tonight. haven’t measured my sons trout might just be his biggest off the bank I’m guessing 19ā€ will post the final measurements View attachment 1073423
Not sure if cleanup is a concern, started using trash bags inside the fish bag, also put plastic drink bottles full of water in the freezer, line the bottom of the fish bag with the ice bottles and place the garbage bag in, fish into the garbage bag and clean up is a breeze, and I don't have to worry about stopping to pick up ice.

Not trying to he did. We watched him hand dig it out. lol
Not trying to derail the thread but isn't the beauty of a back hoe the option of using the rear bucket arm to lift and then rotate the back up & out of the hole while pivoting on the front bucket? Then just reverse out or using your rear arm to assist backing if needed?

yes, you can adjust the loader bucket flat on the ground to use as a skid. Lift the backhoe up using the boom and loader. Then slide backwards.
