I’ve been struggling to find the crappie in prineville. Went out today from 9-2 and couldn’t keep the bass off my hook but no crappie to be seen. I put in at powder house cove and fished with a crappie magnet at a bunch of different spots. If anyone has some spots or other methods they mind sharing I would be very grateful. Thanks!

Crank baits have been king for the last week.

Bandit 300, anything with purple on it was the trick this week. Last week it was chartreuse.

Flicker Shad crawfish pattern was the grand champion 2 years ago.

Cast and retrieved or trolled. 1.2-1.5 mph.

It’s back to work for me for the weekend. I’m hoping the algae calms down or goes away before next week. Have some friends that want to come over and go fishing. Just can’t see having them come with the algae as bad as it is.

No Bass on the plastics, some little Bass on the magnets, and one decent crappie from a new spot.

I should say, Bass and Crappie was way better last week when I took another friend. it really tanked yesterday for us. Algea was really bad too.

I’ll probably hold off going again until the algae runs its course. There is no getting away from it this year.

Thank you for the well wishes and prayers, so far so good, swelling was limited to her muzzle, kept her knocked out the last couple days and this morning she almost looks normal, cannot have her playing about and frolicking yet so knocked her out again just in case.

Got home Tuesday from work and my son said he seen two rattlers by the mailboxes. Grabbed the boat gaff and a beer and went hunting. Didn’t take long to find both of them.

I dont see any damage to their heads. Did you kill those by making them drink the beer?

Had reservations at Cottonwood Canyon SP this weekend - looking forward to harassing the smallmouths; was not possible since it burned through night before last.

Got excited thinking I might finally come across to Prineville and see if I could try out some of everyone's shore techniques - then remembered all the splash&giggle warnings; couple that with Fathers Day weekend campground crowds and thought better. In the meantime, still appreciate the stories/updates.

Camp ground at the state park was next to empty yesterday. No idea what it looks like today. The algae is pretty bad. I would not make a long drive to fish it if I had the option to wait.

Appreciate that - helps with the decision. That said, I have done some really stupid/crazy/indefinable things to try and catch a fish!

That reminds me of the top layer of Lower Klamath Lake and the various irrigation ditches in the area.

I wonder if there could be some blue-green algae forming. Hopefully there is monitoring as there are quite a few people and pets that swim there in the summer.

Not so bad at the grounds today, very fish able except for the wind. It was my best day of the week, to bad I have to go home tomorrow, kept 23 over 11” probably let go 60 under 10”. It was on fire about 11 am to 1 pm, complete chaos, there was nobody else crappie fishing. I think when the night sky is darker and the algae settles a bit you will be posting lots of fish and I’ll be jealous because I’m on the wrong side of the mountain 😂 but I’ll be back soon 👍

I’m glad you got one day of good fishing in. Sounds like I might have to start sleeping in because the morning bite has been nonexistent this year.

So I stayed a bit late to meet my new neighbors from Southern California that just arrived this morning. Just wanted to meet them, first 5 minutes he asked if I wanted to sell my property. I told him based on what he paid for his bare land, a price I would need to have to leave, he didn’t seem to like it 😂.

Hell no I don’t share my beer. lol. I’ve found rattle snakes are easy to kill. An accurate stab with the boat gaff and game over. But I will say their heart beats for like an hour after death

I see about 4 of those I would have tried.

I’ll be looking at the Bandit 300 line up to see what else they have with purple in it. I’ve tried the 200 series, not much luck next to a 300.
