14 oz. cannonball sinker??

I've read references to folks using 14 oz weights when trolling (esp. with Protrolls), but can't find any cannonballs that size locally. Lots of 12 oz and 16 oz, but no 14. Even searched on line, but only found some on eBay that were in England and couldn't be shipped to the US. Where does one get a cannonball sinker that size?

If you've never actually weighed all your sinkers, you may be in for a big surprise.

You might have some 14 oz leads already.

This.

I've bought 16 oz cannonballs that actually weighed 14 oz. And 1 oz that weighed 3/4 oz. Just examples. When lead weights are off spec, they often tend to be light. Both the mold and metal purity can affect this.

Turns out, when you start weighing stuff, you find it is rare for fishing products to consistently weigh as advertised. But it also only rarely matters.

We had a machinist make us a 14oz. sinker mold years ago. Its nice to have the option and we pour all our own, so why not.

But yeah, depending on the alloy of lead you have the weight can be variable. But then the premise is still the same, cut the gap between 12 and 16 in half. Regardless of alloy, the 14oz. mold achieves this.

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions, everyone! Fish Field doesn't have them and the guy I talked to there confirmed that they are not made commercially (no 18 oz, either, he told me, although I wasn't looking for those). I wasn't desperate for the 14 oz'ers, and didn't think I couldn't fish successfully without them, it just got me really curious that I saw iFishers posting here refer to them, but I couldn't find them for sale anywhere.

I will follow up on some of the other leads and meanwhile I'll continue to use my 12 oz'ers.

Now on to pursuing the fish and not the sinker!
