I picked up a yellow Lamiglas Rod a while back at a garage sale. It is 9 foot 6 inches. Yellow in color, and I believe it is fiberglass. It has the number 5802. It looks like it was a custom built rod. Thanks for any help. TY

No markings other then the 5802.

put 1/2 oz piece of lead on it with corky yarn report back. It should fish.

I was pulling your leg.......sort of. There was no question mark and no real question. Though I did get what you were saying.....sort of. :bearhug:

As for what to use the rod for, What do you fish for?

I have a yellow custom made 8.5 foot, fiberglass spinning rod from that era. Made by Ron Williamson in Tacoma. It might be a Lami blank. Weighs a metric ton compared to modern stuff. Tons of sentimental value but haven't used it in 30 years. If I was throwing or trolling plugs, I might use it. It's a SLOW action rod so twitching is out. My wrist would give out in 20 minutes anyway !!

I bought a nice old but barely used yellow rod that sounds similar. It's a 7'9" plug rod with a slow action rod that really let's plugs work. I bought it from an ifisher that had Shingles while he was building it so the only marking on it is the word "itchy" in Sharpie.

Those old original Lamiglas rods are GREAT for plugs. The bigger ones like you got are great for Flat/kwikfish and light Herring rods.

Almost assuredly, that is a Lamiglas 'E-glass' rod, better known as a 'Honey', named for its distinctive color. With the advent of graphite rods they fell from favor, but, in my opinion, there is no better rod to fight a big fish with. Some people agree with me, because Lami still makes 'Classic Glass' rods. I know they had surf Honeys in their catalog as recently as 2013.
The blanks may weigh twice as much as a graphite blank, but that 'give' when a fish is on more than makes up for the weight difference. Great find.

There are some old Lami catalogs on the net. You might find that blank listed somewhere.
