Well, every time I go to start my 8hp 4 stroke yamaha kicker is bellows lots of smoke. Once it gets going it runs fine, I am just worried about the smoke. Also, the primer bulb will not firm up. I am guessing something is wrong with the fuel dilivery system. I also, notice the motor no longer needs to be choked to fire up. Any suggestions.

Blue smoke = Oil
Black smoke = gas

Which one will start the trouble shooting.

I have a new T8 , never had that problem.

Now I sounding like a service tech.
If its black smoke, which I suspect it is, probably simple fix for shop

i`d take it in and have it checked out, if your fuel bulb isnt getting firm and it smokes when you start and you dont have to choke it there is already gas in the cylinders, gas is probly seeping past the needle and seat in the carb when you prime it and the blue smoke is oil being washed out of the cylinders and that aint good.

suckerfish,

I suspect you'll get the usual diagnosis, bad carbuerator. Mine was flawless then coughed and choked and then died.

The fixed it under warranty but it was 3 weeks of Spring season waiting for the part.

Take it to a good service shop that does Yamaha warranty. I'd recommend Pacific Boatland.
