Yamaha F-8 starting problem

It's a great motor, once I get it started. The carburetor was cleaned out a year ago, I had water in the fuel system. That problem was solved however before and after that it is extremely hard to start. Once I get it started it runs and restarts like a champ. I'm not talented enough to tear into it and see what's wrong with it. My regular mechanic is Johnny's Mobile Marine and he has done great work for me, but that's an hour away and nothing else is wrong with the motor.
Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks, TF

Sounds like a mixture problem. If you look on the side of the carburetor you will find a small copper or aluminum plug. Pop that out with a pick and back the screw thats inside a 1/4 turn and your starting should improve. The other issue could be the bulb on the fuel line has a bad valve and is allowing fuel to drain back. You can check this by pumping the bulb until its hard then a few hours later see if its still hard.

Thanks for all the input, I'm fishing tomorrow so I'll try what (Soulakla) advised with backing that mixture screw out 1/4 turn. Yes I pump the fuel bulb solid before I try to start it. Reload 45, I'll give that a try before I adjust the mixture screw. Manual start, so I'm exhausted by the time I start fishing, the motor alway starts it's just a matter of time and yanking on the pull cord to get it going.
