Yamaha 300 and 9.9 flushing question

I was listening to an outdoor radio show and they were talking about engine maintenance. The guy was saying that you can hook you hose up to the flushing hose on the engine and then run the engine to flush it. Is that correct? I thought you couldn't run the engine with just the flushing hose.

There are people that do it, and say they have never had an issue. The theory is that enough water makes its way down the water pump outlet tube to keep the pump lubed.

You have two options, do whatever some guy says, or follow the manufacturer's recommendation.

Pretty basic: I sure would not want to have my engine serviced by that bozo. Great way to burn up your motor.

Fits my model of many dealerships. Good ones are hard to find.
