Portland Winter Hawks fans donated a World Record smashing 21,069 bears in the annual Teddy Bear Toss. Portland fans bested the previous record claim by almost 8,000 bears. The Calgary Hitmen collected 13,156 bears on December 4, 2004.
Portland Winter Hawks center Brandon Dubinsky scored the “Teddy Bear Goal” at 8:11 of the first period, his first of two goals in the game, and Jon Bubnick (BUBB-nick) scored a power play goal in overtime as the Hawks edged the Tri-City Americans, 5-4, Saturday in front of 7,747 in Memorial Coliseum
Thats awsome. They just showed the first goal and the toss on the news. I've seen a few tosses at Hawks game and thought that looked like a lot of animals, but had no idea it was a record.
