So, this can’t be the ACTUAL winter steelhead thread. There is no “Official” or “Unofficial” in the thread title. Any and all reports, whether including pics or not, should be considered invalid, if posted in this thread. 🤣

I would start an “Official Unofficial 2023/2024 Winter Steelhead Reports” thread, but I feel that since I have not yet fished for winter steelhead this season, I am unqualified to start that thread. 😁

Those with a bit of bait or a Corkie are slayers. I use eggs almost always. Sometimes a shrimp tail. (y) 🇺🇸

I got this one last week on a soft bead. I went out yesterday and got Skunked. View attachment 1027627
That's the first winter fish keeper I've seen posted so right on brotha. I'm gonna go test a 13ft Shimano compre rod in the am. Not counting on hatchery fish showing up in my neck o the woods till late Jan early Feb. It's good to see that strain I missed seeing how beautiful they are when they first show up.

went 2/3 to the net today on the new rod. Broke off a fish on 10lb leader. Deep in the tail out. Fast water. Fish digging hard and pop goes the weasel. Least I got my float back. There goes my pink worm and jig... I don't like leaving gear in fish. New rod. 10/10. Lighter than my lamiglas. Stronger rod with more beef and for half the price. The medium heavy action has more tip strength and I could whip a 9/10lb steelhead around pretty good with it. So much so that I'll be using it for springers this year.
