(Mods this is definately more fishing related than a lot of stuff on the main board. Please do not move.)

They just had an earthquake off the Japanese coast. 8 point something on their scale. Although there is no tsumami warning for the OR/WA coast, Alaska has one. Sounds like the energy is going to break around 10:30 tonight at Seaside. Check the Tsunami warning sight for more info...

Might keep an eye on this if you are headed to the coast. Could this might affect the clamming or charters this weekend..?

If the wave did come through, it would mess up the ocean for no more than four hours. After that, you could go out fishing again.

I was in Tillamook many years ago when the Coast Guard ran us all off because of a suspected tsunami. It never made it to shore but it sure was eerie over there for a while.

You would hardly notice this offshore. They only build up inshore. I called my niece in Ketchikan and they're going to head to higher ground this evening.

OK, I guess they called it off. Here's a snippit of the final bullitin:

EVALUATION:
NO TSUNAMI DANGER EXISTS FOR ALASKA, BRITISH COLUMBIA,
WASHINGTON, OREGON, OR CALIFORNIA. HOWEVER, SOME AREAS MAY
EXPERIENCE SMALL SEA LEVEL CHANGES. AS LOCAL CONDITIONS
CAN CAUSE A WIDE VARIATION IN TSUNAMI WAVE ACTION, THE ALL
CLEAR DETERMINATIONS MUST BE MADE BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

COASTAL AREAS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA AND ALASKA.

...THE TSUNAMI WARNING AND WATCH STATUS IS CANCELLED FOR
BRITISH COLUMBIA AND ALASKA...
