Does any Salty Dog know were to buy an Insulated Bag for a floor fish box, for a Hewes Craft Ocean Pro 22 ft. boat with a 2 ft. outdrive?

Most people I see get them from Wilderness Pack for a custom floor fish box bag.

I haven't used one but have been thinking about it.

You can make your own out of 18 ounce vinyl tarp, hh66 cement and some insulation.

WPS makes some great ones and I had them on a previous boat. Made my own this time and saved some money for far less pretty and just about as functional ones.

Mine are insulated with a layer of bubble insulation like Lowes sells and ice blanket (hydrophobic foam like a yoga mat) that Englunds sells. I put ice on board Friday night and the bags I didn’t use were still 60 ish percent ice late this afternoon.

Sure would like to see a photo of your fish hold bag and any details you wish to share about how you put it all together; Vinyl tarp- number of layers of which bubble insulation- layers of which hydrophobic foam. etc.

What were the approximate cost of the materials? Also, did you include a drain plug like WPS?

Less Pretty is fine, but did it hold up for several tuna seasons?

We had WPS make one for the floor box of our Ocean Pro 240. I opted for a zipper in the shape of a wide U matching the opening of the lid instead of the velcro.

It fits very snug. If I had it to do over, I would have it made 1" shorter. I don't leave it in the boat all the time and it's a little finicky to get it in & out.

If you don't mind sharing, what was the cost of your in floor liner with zipper? Looking to do one for my boat and just curious about what it will cost. Thx

The way that NR built their fish box is not user friendly. They have several inches of a lip from the floor that causes problems putting a bag in or out. You actually need one that can fold up and unfold while in the box. Many years ago tuna fishing we would lug the big coolers out and decided to try the fish box. We first put the tuna in the limited number of coolers we brought this time and when we thought we had enough we transferred them to the floor fish box with all the ice. With in a short period of time the ice was nearly melted and it was a haul **** back before we ruined out load. Then we discussed with others how to stop that from happening and be able to use the fish box. The water temp out there on the tuna grounds and alumina being a good heat conductor meant problems. Use of close foam, we bought enough for the floor of the fish box, not good , then enough for the whole fish box. Problems with that is the foam was extremely difficult to get into the box. The ice melted maybe not at the rate before but didn't last as long as we wanted. And it stunk, impossible to get the stink out. We did buy a 400qt Grizzly cooler but that took up to much space in the boat. We have a floor fish bag that we use but would like a bag that would fit the fish box. NR really didn't plan well for this. I would like the bag to fit the entire fish box for the big halibut or a mess of long leader fish. Having a fish box but having to put all the fish in a large cooler or a couple taking up space just doesn't seem right. How have others that have the same problem with the floor lip hanging things up fix that? If you do have a WPS bag does it fit in the box and big enough to hold big halibut, 20 tuna or a bunch of long leader big canary's? I am not sure how much they cost but I would think $200 and up. I am not interested in spending that kind of money and not getting the product I need and want.

Another vote for WPS. They did an in-floor bag for my arima and I just got a cuddy bag that should hold 15-18 tuna. They do really nice work - the floor bag had to fit to an odd shape and they did it perfectly and the cuddy bag is some kind of advanced math problem with fiberglass reinforced sides to keep it from caving in on itself.

Curious what arima you have omytodd. The cuddy bag is exactly what I have been thinking of for our 19 ft arima. The infloor fish box in our boat is also a conundrum as it is fairly shallow. We have only used it a few times for halibut. I would love to use it for tuna.

I read up and went with WPS for 2 custom bags for transdom & infloor large fish boxes, the tops velco on and we love them. I agree with earlier post to make them 1 inch shorter for ease of getting them in & out. For bottom fish I wanted to use my shallower but longer in floor fish box so asked WPS to make a blanket liner to lay in fish box, no top and now we kick those bottom fish in & our ice holds to shore. We love WPS. Their customer service is the best.

How many days will a WSP hold ice when it's 60 degrees out? We currently have a Smak fish box and get 5-7 days out of our ice depending on temperature, maybe 4 if it hits 75 or 80 which is rare for southeast Alaska. I've been tempted to get rid of the Smak and buy liners though ice is really hard to come by when you are out of the major towns in Southeast Alaska, needing ice every 2 days wouldn't work for us.

Just need to know if you are ordering from WPS for a NR boat fish box. Do you measure from side to side under the lip all the way around. If you are not going under the lip you are losing a lot of space. And for those that have ordered larger to go under the lip is it easy to get the fish bag in the fish box or is it a pain in the ars? We have a great fish bag that spreads out on the bottom and holds some big halibut but the bigger ones 45" and up need to go in the floor fish box with little cooling because the ice melts so dang fast. Can sit in cold water but I would rather use a fish bag, easy to clean.

I bought the Fish Fighter 48 inch bag just 2 weeks ago. Put some ice in it and put it on the back seat of my pickup. Water leaked out over night and not a little. Emailed Fish Fighter, response was that the manufacturer told them that they are not water proof. My bad, I just assumed that a fish bag would hold the water so the fish slime didn't leak out. I do have a 30 day back guarantee if not happy, so I'll be returning it.

Definitely a little smaller, maybe an inch on length and width. Took me maybe a couple minutes at most to get it in there, so not a huge deal, but kind of a pain.

I priced out the transom box. It was $330. We opted not to do that one. This was gall last year.
Got it, will def take that into consideration while talking with them and placing order. Think I'll just bite the bullet and have them both done at same time. Thx again for getting back with me on it, won't be a suprise of what they cost. The good stuff is never cheap
