My dad just gave me a lamiglass 9 1/2 ft. pole(sturdy) and Abu Garcia reel(small) it has bluish white threaded type line, what type of line is this and how do I tie knots with it. Probably a Bobber pole???? can it be used for fall Chinook???...With weight and Alvin.... :grin: :grin: :grin: (cost was 90$ originally 160$)

Not sure of the brand but a braided line for sure. Yes, use it for fall chinook with Alvins etc, and even bobberin if ya like. Ask your Dad what his intentions were with his choice.

sounds like braided dacron... As for knots use the polymer style knot.. or take it off and put on some 50lb tuff!

He picked it up at a retired guides yard sale thought it to be a good pole for downrigger and it is. As for knots any web sites for braided lines(tried standard mono line knot and it slid through the knot...) :grin: :grin: :grin:

Toss it and get some new stuff just to make sure...

The only thing between you and your fish is your line so don't skimp on it.

What model reel is it?

Most the time with braided all you need is 100-150 yrds of line so you need to put some mono (or leave some of the old stuff) on as backing.
