I remember it as well and I'm not 30 either.

Actually I sorta remember it. I was like 9 or 10.

I was there with my dad and mom, I was 19 at the time.We watched this happen from an area a little farther down from this parking area. Still got showered with pieces of yuk. We were living in Newport at the time. And being curious, my Dad took us down there to see the fireworks. Raining whale everywhere, cars hit with 50 lb pieces and crunched.

I almost forgot about this, as those I have told this to, only thought it was one of my fishtales.
Thanks for bringing back a good memory.

Ya know, thinking about it, I'd say they were were just a couple more hours of prep work away from being quite succesful.

If they could have dug a "relief" on the ocean side and compact a very large berm on the other side (ocean/relief/whale/explosives/berm) and upped the explosives by 10 cases or so....

If it happened today, they could get one of those large salvage boats to drag it off the beach.
