Not many hike there during elk season. Every clear cut and dead end will have people sitting in there trucks waiting for the elk to move. That was my first and last time elk hunting there. Lots of other options in that area that don’t get that kind of pressure.

I miss when that property was open. Was hunting high up on the periphery of that property with a friend who hunted that area a lot as a kid and lamented together that it's permit only now.

 

Yup, we used to hunt it quite a bit when I was a kid, but I think even then it was walk in. The old man likes to go up there though, brings back a lot of fond memories for him. So, he decided to grab a permit for this year. Gets him out of the house for a bit.

 

Not saying there are no elk up there because I’ve seen some sign but four years with that permit and I’ve yet to actually see an elk up there.

 

I've heard this before. Frankly it's been years and like another poster said, I don't want to spoil any spots publicly but they are 100% there just not as active as you'd hope.

 

My experience is the elk up there tend to make big circuits. See them in a clear cut one of two days and it might take them a week or ten days to complete their circuit and be back to that same area again. One of the reasons the cascade elk hunt is so difficult.

 

Definitely seems like "right place right time" sort of thing.
