Whats the weirdest thing you found in the woods when you were out in the middle of nowhere. I was about 15 miles off the pavement last night just taking a drive after work and came across a pile of dead animals off a spur road, covered with about 40 buzzards. At first i thought they were deer or elk but on closer inpsection they were dead cows and other random livestock couldnt get tool close because of the smell. One big bull on the top of the pile had to be about as big as my truck!!! Im guessing some farmer dumped them out there but dont know why they would go through the hassle of hauling them that far? Should this be reported to somebody? it was public land. Also saw a giant tom and a couple of deer that looked like they had hairloss pretty bad, i will post pictures when i get them off the camera didnt get any of the dead cows though.

Might be a good spot to set up for yotes. If you have a good view from a distance.

I would have thought that they could at least get a rendering company to haul those carcasses off.

I found what looked like an "alter" with a goats head on it one time.....It had been there for quite a while, but it still gave me the creeps!!!!

I've also walked into pot fields twice. One had been harvested, but it was obvious what it was and the other hadn't. I carefully backtracked out the way I came and got outta there!!!!

I actually quit hunting in the area with the goats head as I have run into some WEIRD stuff and some STRANGE people since then.......

On the lighter side a found an arrow about 10' up in a tree one time. I stopped to take a drink of water and as I looked up, there it was. I thought for a bit then realized I was in a little draw. The poor guy musta been shooting across the little gully toward a trail on the other side and WACK, nailed a 3" vine Maple!!!

There's more stuff, good post, this could be fun!!!:lurk:

Found this and didn't know what it was. At first I thought it was a dope growing operation because of how it looks thrown together.
Notice the solar array in the upper right. That conduit going up from the box goes up to an antenna.
I asked around at different agencies and after a while found out it was a USGS water level monitoring station which provides real time data.
You would think it would be labeled, or locked ??

hunting one of the wagontrain routes one elk season i found a one man camp/lookout where someone waited for the next train to come through. small fire ring, rockwall at the base of a rim overlooking wagontrail. just big enough to make a bed in and warming fire and stay out of sight from indians. at least that is what it looked like to me. i also found defensive positions indians built during the indian wars

I was out in the desert around glass butte and found a shirt and 5 ft farther was a pair of pants and then an arrow case full of arrows with broadheads and 2 drink tokens from a bar in Roseberg then about ten more feet I found a 5 dollar bill and 2 more one dollar bills then a pair of mens underwear. Don't know what it was all about but I scoured the area looking for a body or a grave found nothing though. Must have been a good bender took place there.

Does anyone know any jokes that start off with "for $7, two drink tokens and a case of arrows i bet i can get you naked..."

I got a special wilderness permit to go into an area in the mountains in CA where they hadn't allowed foot traffic in, in twenty years. There were no trails. It was myself and two other Marines and we did it in exchange for seeing if there was a rare kind of trout in the streams up there. I guess the forest service didn't have anyone who wanted to do it. I'm not sure I was set up with this by a friend. Anyway we hiked for two days with no trails using just a map and compass and on the second day we walked around this huge cliff to find a full on cabin with a lawn and solar power and washer and dryer the whole nine yards all built into the rock face of the cliff. You couldn't see it from above so it had gone unoticed for years. We talked to the guy that lived there and he said we were the first people he had seen hike in, in 14 years. He was a retired helicopter pilot and he had flown all the equipment in by helo. He was squatting on federal land and knew it but didn't seem worried. He said he hikes out every two weeks for supplies by a different route then we came in and he showed it to us. We used that route to get back as he had a trail beaten down so the walking was easier. All in all it was pretty cool. The trout the forest service was looking for were in the creeks so it is still closed to foot travel and we never told the forest service about the old helicopter pilot so I would bet he is still out there.

A few years ago I sat down in one of my favorite elk reprods and noticed a bit of shine in the dirt. I dug it out and it was a single blade for a satellite broadhead. What are the odds of that? I'm sure its from one of my group from many years ago.

Over the years we've stumbled onto a fair amount of marijuana leftovers, a wallet, an old elk collar, underwear, old arrows, lots of tree stands, some cool Indian artifacts, license plates from long ago, and even a dead guy.

I had to chuckle when I read Hawks account of finding a womens 'friend'. I found a similar device in the middle of nowhere and figured that if the trees could talk they'd have a really weird story to tell.

A freind has a habit of putting a golf ball in very remote places where it will be spotted by the next person who eventually comes along. He will put it on a stump at a trail intersection, or on a large rock outcropping that over looks a canyon.. stuff like that. WHAT A DRIVE !!!

In the coast range, found where someone had arranged a 20 ft circle of big rocks in a meadow like a stonehenge kind of thing and had trampled a path to dust in a circle around the rocks. Some kind of wierd religious ceremony?

The coolest thing I found was with my family in the trask when we came across an old log truck that had been left in the Tillamook burn. It was still together fairly well and had little fire damage. I might venture back there one of these days to snap some pictures.

a couple of years ago elk hunting in the chesnimnus unit I came across a prop to an airplane, I looked all around for the rest of the plane but didnt find anything, I would have packed it out but I was over 10 miles in and didn`t have the gumption to get er done, and yes I did tell the trooper on his dailey drive thru camp. I never did hear if anything ever came of it.

Years ago we found a old keg of axe heads in the bottom of the Wolf creek in the coast range. They were all rusted together but you could tell that they were ax heads we think they were left behind after work on the burn???

We have also seen a young couple ride out in to a clear cut on a 4 wheeler. We were napping and waiting for the afternoon to pass. To keep this clean they must not have thought any one was around and had a fun time we were like 100 yards from them when they started we tried coughing and even cow called and bugled to no avail  .

When I first started bow hunting years ago I was in a tree stand bear huntin'.
I hear a noise and out walks a guy with a small bucket hanging from his belt buckle and his manhood dangling in a batch of just picked huckleberries. He was packin a weapon so I decided to be quiet.....hard not to laugh a little bit though.
A half hour or so later he came back and saw my bear bait set-up and started poking around with a stick......all the while he still has his boy parts in the huckleberries. I knew of this guy, he had a bad family history of abuse and such, and about 2 weeks after the episode he died choking on a piece of steak.
Funny how things work out that way......

True story.....swear to GOD

I have found, and verified with OSP, three stolen cars. All three different locations and different years. One car was taken from Colvin Ford and when I found it it was burried in some blackberries and the keys were still in it! And of course, I drove it out as close to the road as I could and called the police. Then I called Colvin Ford and asked if they had a 2001 Rodeo missing and told them my story. They offered me Free oil changes, car detailing, ect. I didn't get to find any cars this last hunting season but 2007 is a new year! BH
