IF YOU ARE USEING MAPCREATE 5 DO NOT DO THIS UPDATE. YOUR MAPPING SOFTWARE WILL NOT WORK ANY MORE. I did the upgrade last night only to find that my maps did not work anymore. I talked to Lowrance tech support just now and found that MapCreate5 is no longer supported with this software upgrade. He also said a problem had been found in the depth sounder in V2.9 and below and V3 fixes this problem. If you want to upgrade to MapCreate 6 buy it through Bass Pro shops online. FM wants $190.00 Joes is $149, and BPS is $75.

Improved digital depth
Enhanced surface clarity feature
Added map detail selection to Map Data window
Text enhancements

From what Tech services said this clears up a lot of the problem of loosing depth at high speed and shallow water. It also makes it work better in shallow water because it clears up the surface clutter. I went out and bought MapCreate6 and can't tell any diffrence in the quality of maps except now I have $150 less. I found a pretty neat thing, if you press the "exit" button a few times fast it brings up a speedometer and a odometer. It says since I installed my untit I have gone 717.4 miles.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I checked on the Navionics chip at Rodgers Marine, they are pretty cool BUT you loose the local info like lakes, streams, and the rural roads and campgrounds. If you stay just in the columbia, ocean or a few bays they would be great. The depth contures were awsome.

Ok, I give up. At BPS, MapCreate 5 is $130, but MapCreate 6 is $75 ???? and there's a free upgrade on Lowrance to 6.2 ... so what am I missing? I don't see anything packaged with 5 that 6 doesn't have. Is this just an opportunity to pay $55 extra for older, non-upgradable software?

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">MapCreate6 is faster but make sure you download the upgrade to 6.2 it gives you more options and makes transfering the data much easier. The upgrade is big around 44Mb so if you don't have high speed internet let me know and I can burn a copy onto a cd for you. I did the mapcreat6.2 thing today and downloaded a map to my unit now all is good. With the Lowrance 3.0 upgrade you now have a warning at startup telling you not to rely on the information for sole navagation  and the updateing of the screen when you are scrolling is somewhat slower.
