Wait to buy archery tags??

In previous years it has become clear that BLM and State seem to wait until the last hour (Friday before opener) to close the woods. Most of us have become wise to the game and have plan B in our pockets.

It is my opinion that they do this to the benefit of the Fish and Game so that we can all make plans buy our hunting tags etc etc. Fish and Game relies on this revenue and the State knows it so they wait until almost all of us buy our tags and then close the woods on us. This in turn maintains the revenue stream and doesn't over burden the woods with guys that decide to rifle hunt instead. It would be nice to get a set amount of time in the woods. Close the woods the first two weeks we get two weeks of late wintertime archery.

This year we should plan on the woods being closed. The U.S. Forest Service is calling for all red carded people to be made available to fight fires. This was a message from the Chief supposedly...I tend to believe this is the case. As others have indicated the fire level is the highest it's ever been.

I wish we could wait, but Oregon has this requirement of buying a license the day before season starts. So, even if there was a torrential downpour opening day that drenched the whole state, you would be SOL for both early and late season.
Don't panic, the east side goes to a level 4 almost every year. They will probably ban the use of generators and campfires, and might require hunters to stay in official campgrounds. In 1988 everybody had to camp in designated campgrounds, no big deal. The hunting was incredible that year!!!

A side note...Grant County is infested with yellow jackets this year, so be forewarned!!!
Doesn't matter to me...i'm archery hunting regardless  :yay:

The only folks who may close land would be the large private landowners. For others...it ain't gonna happen. Don't worry...buy your tags.
Archery only since 1977. My tags are already purchased. I don't expect to be able to hunt private timber in the early season. Adjust accordingly.
I have been archery hunting for 30 years I have seen them close the state lands down twice the timber companies are often closed but I have never seen them close down national forest lands ever although they do have some major restrictions for a good reason. It is always dry in Eastern Oregon this year is one of the worst. In those years that we were able to hunt about 2 weeks we never got a tag replacement and there were alot of unhappy hunters but that is problem with archery hunting.
