Bend can be a great place to live, but it's not that great when you want catch anything that's not a trout. So, one of the closest spots to chase other species is the Columbia, below the John Day dam. Had decent luck here earlier fishing for springers and know they were also fishing for sturgeon in that area. So, thought I might give a try for some shad and sturgies there this weekend. Anyone have any tips for up there other than the standard stuff? Any info, as always, is greatly appreciated.
Also, to the best of my knowledge, after reading the ODFW's news releases, this area is still open to the retention of sturgeon until later this month. Please advise if I misread this. Thanks.
