The outflow from Lost Creek Dam will be increased from its current flow of 1600 cfs up to 1900 cfs, on August 11th. The water will also be released from the lower water column, which means it will be cold. This increase will continue until at least September 1st.

This will do the following:

1. Help trigger spawning of spring salmon currently in the river.

2. Cool the water for the huge amount of "summer" salmon currently in the river, possibly heading off a warm-water fish kill.

3. And, unfortunately, it will really mess up the bay fishery
, especially for the first week or so after it starts.....the fish currently kegging up in the bay will blow up river.

So, if you'd like to experience the really good stuff, my personal suggestion is to go before the 12th or so.

this is GOOD news for us up river that are waiting to see some more fish. Over the hot spell the last few weeks, the water has seen a lot of 70 degree days here. There are already some dead fish in the canyon.
