i followed someone else's tip and used non-dairy creamer. four packets for a package of green label, about 1/3 cup of rock salt, about a tablespoon and a half of mrs. stewarts blue and roughly 3/4 cup of distilled water. do not use tap water. the springers seemed to like it. one in the boat and one missed on the hook set on a day when most boats went home without a hit.
I use about a cup for the jar I cure my herring in, that usually is 12-24 fish. Works really good and is pretty cheap. Just use the cheap generic brand. Works great! Add a little blue or green food coloring and some brown sugar too.
