It’s not uncommon.

 

Were they purple ovals about 4 inches long, with a clear top and a sort of diagonal sail? If so they're Velella, which commonly wash up on the beaches in droves. This would be an unusual time of year for them, however.

 

Hey Charles, No they were mature browns and what looked to be juvenile browns that were see through clear, 3" in diameter. Not velellas...

 

Jelly fish have been a big problem for fisherman all year long. For whatever reason (warmer water?) the population seems huge and/or closer to shore this year.

 

Pretty common.
Lifelong Oregon resident and I have seen this happen many times.
Their proximity to the beach and wind and tides lining up and they just go where the wind blows them.
Gets pretty stinky.

 

Stay clear probably invasive could end up in your cooler and then where???

 

My last trip out a couple weeks back, it was just thick with them on the inside. If you zoom in you can see the tiny clear ones too. I'm glad I didn't have crab pots out.

 

I guess I had better come clean; it's me. I've killed thousands in the past couple weeks with my downrigger gear. And although we try to clean them off over the water, I've got reddish-brown stains all over the white fiberglass on the back of the boat to prove it. (If anyone knows a good product to get those stains out, I love to hear it. The liquid bathroom cleaner and green scratch pad I'm using doesn't do it.)

 

Make paste with water and Zud cleaner. Spread the paste on the stains and leave it to dry. Once it dries up just hose it off. It even removes rust stains on fiberglass

 

Those are all the ones I cleared of my lines fishing the last month and a half
