This is where all related topics regarding Measure 114 will take place. If you start a thread elsewhere it will not be moved here, it will be removed. We are having to babysit and deal with too many threads on this subject, so to have it all in one place it will be more manageable. Please adhere to the AUP. We know the topic is political, but it's important to our recreational choices as hunters and fishermen. This means keep it civil and on topic.

Some interesting testimony in there. I even read a letter from Moms Demand Action and Lift Every Voice opposing this bill.
Noticed that as well when I submitted; I believe this was so last minute, nobody fully understands what it does so they are afraid it waters down 114 maybe. Lots of opposition commentary for sure. I will add a quote below that I received in response to HB2007 - it is apparent some legislators are checking popularity boxes and letting it get sorted later at taxpayer expense [emphasis mine]:

Thank you for taking the time to reach out and make your voice heard. Your opinion is noted, even if the representative believes differently. Rep. Walters and our office are committed to common sense gun laws that should have little impact on sensible, law-abiding Oregonians. Rep. Walters knows and takes her duty very seriously. She both understands and respects the Constitution. She also cares deeply for the senseless loss of life our nation is experiencing at the hands of criminal gun users. Should the higher courts rule against HB 2005-2007, that is their right, just as it is her right and responsibility to protect Oregonians. If you have any question about the particulars of the bills, our office will be happy to assist you.

So personal agenda and veiled accusations of the opposition not caring.

Checks and balances.
That is why there is a have a judicial branch.
Until the final version of a bill is passed, the courts keep out of it. It's the American way.
Here is the Oregonian's take on this bill. Can't hardly read it I'm so disgusted.

What then is the purpose of the Judiciary Committees in the House and Senate? They work on judicial appointments but most all of these bills go through them before hitting the floor for a vote - no? Certainly not the end all be all - as you note the judicial branch has that but only after something gets through and is [or is not challenged]. Seems like this would be a start to keeping it from going to court and using taxpayer dollars to defend [EVERYONE'S dollars - those who are proponents as well as those who are opponents].

The article @joeer77 appears to have a comprehensive albeit basic layout of the framework of the bill. Though I didn't see anything related to HB2007 rolled in so presumably that one is held separate. HB2006 is basically incorporated. HB2005 is not. This is all based on reliance that The Oregonian is doing a full vet on the 64 pages....

To give some idea how little attention is paid to the details in these bills, I noticed HB2006 referred to “level“ (vice lever) action firearms. Instead of catching this rather obvious error, the authors of SB348 did a cut and paste and carried the same error into the new bill in several different sections. I found it even more amusing when the Oregonian article referenced above also referred to “level” action firearms. This is what happens when people who have no subject matter expertise try to write legislation (or newspaper articles).

Looks kinda gimmicky anyway. Not a hill worth fighting for.

Pretty pathetic. More money out of law abiding, tax paying, citizen's pockets. And a renewal fee to boot, and waiting period, for a maybe.......
End of day today [3.29.23] is deadline for comments through OLIS.
Finally watched all the testimony. Glad to see two people from the NRA testify. The NRA lady in the bottom right corner came to Hillsboro last fall and held a town hall about 114. She is a lawyer and is trying to help us. I appreciate their effort and try to support all of the groups. Divided we fall..

HB 2005 with the -1 amendments passed out of Judiciary with a 'do pass' recommendation [6-4 vote] and referral to ways and means [to see if they can pay for it?].

Judiciary Work Session is on VIDEO; 2005 starts at 16:00 minutes and runs to 28:45 minutes. There were some vote comments at the end from some representatives.
Checked my queue status today. Currently at 5156 in line. Started at 10,003. Took me 25 days to get this far. Opened my credit card bill today and I see Sportman's is happy to charge me for a firearm I haven't even picked up yet. Not thrilled about that. Called their 800 number and they swear all refunds will be granted if sale falls through. Still waiting...
For the first time in my firearms owning life, I wasn't an instant approval. Not sure what happened since I just passed instant approval 2 days prior with same FFL. They told me some people were complaining about some checks getting instant approval so they decided to put everyone in the queue now. Not sure if thats true but no idea how long I will now have to wait. I also read they are stress testing their servers this month so maybe related to that. Makes me nervous either way. 60 seconds is the longest Ive ever waited until now. That spans 25 years of background checks of at least 100 firearms.,,,

Just got a email from the NRA ILA. The Oregon senate is going to vote on SB348-1 on Monday. Email your state senator and tell them hell no.

Welcome to the club bud.
Stopped by Sportsman's today to check on my queue status. I got approved last night. It took 6.5 weeks to get through 10,000 people. Resubmitted my paperwork. Likely another 3-7 days before I can take my shotgun home.

I emailed I am not holding out much hope. This bill being snuck in is exactly why 1/2 of Oregon wants to leave.

Just a dumb question. If all Republicans refuse to show up for a vote, can't it be stopped because of no quorum?
I think a bill was voted on to fine them if they don't show up.

Looks as if they pass these bills, (2005A) no juvenile hunter, will be able to hunt with any semi auto, until they're 21 years old.
