I have a pair of Uniden GMR638 radios. Got them free from work, $20 dollar value.
The manual says
"The GMR638 radio operates on the General Mobile Radios Service (GMRS) frequencies when using channels 1-7 and 15-22 You must have a GMRS license issued by the Federal Communication Commision (FCC) to legally use these channels.)
There is more about how to get a license. Apparently you don't need a license in Cananda.
Why do they sell to the general public a radio that you need a license to use only some of the channels on? My wife and kids use these when shopping. We all use them when out in the woods, fishing etc. Do I need to get a liscense for every member of the family? Does anybody get this license? Do they enforce it?
