i have a set of 4 avet MXJs that need spooling. these will go on my live bait rods. i have 2 options that i'm considering i'd prefer option 1, but then the reels would only be used for tuna live bait and nothing else. if i go with option 2 i can use the reels for live bait, jigging and bottomfish.
option 1-
braid backing, #30 mono topshot
option 2-
mono backing, braid topshot, mono/floro leader.
should i stick with spooling my live bait reels with option 1 or could i do option 2? any of you guys use braid for live bait?
i've been using our halibut reels for trolling and i'm about to order a set of avet JXs for dedicated trolling reels for this season. braid backing with a mono topshot, but having a hard time deciding between #40-#50 line. will #50 mono spool nice on a JX? i've used #50 previously but it doesn't pack nice on the reels and i've gotten a few minor back lashes just from the line not staying packed tight to the spool. so what you guys think #40 or #50 for JX reels?
