Well, we finally had some good tides and some nice weather this weekend, so time to go shrimping. We were joined by a few others around Iceberg Point in the Sound. We were going to pull the pots by hand, but a very polite gentleman offered to try his new pot puller!! The wife was happy. We got our limit of spot shrimp and bottomfish. The picture only shows one rockfish, as the others went home with a buddy.

Shrimp for dinner tonight!!

Those are so good. A few years ago I was guiding out of Sitka, AK and a few of the other guides that were locals took a few days off and did some shrimping and crabbing. They came back with something like three garbage cans full of those shrimp as well as seven king crab and twenty dungenes.

We use shrimp pots, which are a glorified crab pots with a smaller mesh and different door. You have to use more weight, due to deeper depth of fishing and drag on the bouy line. We fished around 280 feet. Boy, it's fun to pull them by hand. For bait we use a mixture of canned cat food, herring, clam guts, and old salmon eggs. Ya, what a mix, but the more scent the better. Good eating little devils. The Spots were about 7" long and the Coons were 4". Good family fun. We should have a Shrimpatilla!!!
