I've heard that the older reels are worth a lot more than the original prices because they were made much better.
Can anyone confirm and also if you know list the the current prices they are running for them?
Shimano Tekota: 300, 400, 500, 600, 700 & 800.

FWIW. I bought a 800 12 to 15 years ago. Fished Halibut hill for 10 years, 700 feet with 1 to 3 lbs lead Dozens of fish and have never done done a thing to the reel. The last 5 years have used it as a tuna troll reel and going strong. I rinse it with fresh water after each trip. Anyone wants to sell a 600, 700 ,or 800 for under $125 send me a P.M.

I've got a couple Tekota 500C reels i've had for about 6-7 years and they have been good reels.... but i've got one of them that doesn't let out line smoothly now. it seems to catch a bit.... Works great, but that part drives me nuts. I had it into the shop for repair, and it came back better, but not really fixed..... But I cant complain about these reels at all though. They have been outstanding, and landed many salmon on both of them over the years. Great drag system, & fast retrieve.

I used one of the newer version tekota 600 HGLC all last year for springers and fall nooks. I didn't have any troubles with it at all. It fought and landed at least 20 fish and was deployed more than that. Time will tell if this changes. I agree with @ccw. Daiwa LC reels are no joke. They are also decent reels, as long as you don't glue the 100s column number wheel. 😉

I have several 300LCs and 500LCs, and 2 of the newer models (left handed). The older models are tough. I’ve put some serious wear and tear on them and I’ve never done anything to them aside from washing after salt.

1 of the 2 newer models is waiting for me to send it in for repair as it seized up season 2. The other is fine. The drag on the new ones is not what I had hoped for. Not sure how to describe the issue - it ‘slips’ maybe?

Yes. I have several of each, old and new. Got 4 of "improved" models ready to deploy, after each has been in shop at least once (3 of them twice). Next failure, all the newer ones get a new home!

The Penn Fathom 2 line counter is was way better than my older generation Tekota line counter. Super well built and butter smooth. Comes with the dual paddle and a power handle, both high quality. Left or right hand retrieve.
