Regarding Sauvies...

The beaches offer good success in the spring when the springers and then steelhead are running close-in, in the relatively shallow 8' - ~20' water.

At this time, _most_ (there's always exceptions) salmon are being caught out in the deeper water that is generally out of reach for bank casters.

Its not unheard of,back when I was a young punk I bought a 14' poc boat for like 200 bucks.Took it out by myself to fish the mouth of the lewis for fall fish.It was so crowded I deceded to go back across river and fish just below the lighthouse on sauvies.Anchored up in about 12-15 ft and ended up catching a 15lb urb on a quickfish. The funny thing was I watched the guys at the mouth of the lewis all day and never once saw a fish on!
