I am planning to take The Cootessa out for some fall salmon action in a couple of months. I think that she is likely to get frustrated trying to master casting a level-wind, as she fishes very little. I'd like her to have some success - maybe she will come more often. Anyway, anybody have a suggestion for a reasonably-priced spinning reel that will take chinook abuse? Thanks!
Another vote for the Penns. Anywhere from a 4500 to a 6500 would be fine for chinook. I use a 4500 for boondogging on occasion. They are one tough reel, perfect for fresh or salt water.
I heard from a reliable source that G.I. Joes is selling a Shimano Sedona 6000F spinning reel for $47.99 (on sale this week) which is $5.00 below their cost of $53.99. It normally retails for almost $90.
